The Philippines’ Department of Social Welfare and Development (Filipino: Kagawaran ng Kagalingan at Pagpapaunlad Panlipunan, abbreviated as DSWD) is the executive department of the Philippine Government responsible for the protection of the social welfare of rights of Filipinos and to promote the social development.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is mandated by law to develop, administer and implement comprehensive social welfare programs designed to uplift the living conditions and empower the disadvantaged children, youth, women, older persons, persons with disabilities, families in crisis or at-risk and communities needing assistance.

What is the DSWD Educational Assistance Program?

The DSWD educational assistance program is financial aid for the education of certain eligible people. Back in March of 2018, they clarified that they were not offering a scholarship; they were offering a type of educational assistance for indigent students and other qualified students.

Who is qualified to apply for DSWD’s educational assistance program?

The announcement from DSWD Secretary Erwin Tulfo states that the people qualified to avail the DSWD educational assistance program are the following:

  • Breadwinner
  • Working student
  • Has no family/Living with relative
  • Child of a solo parent
  • Has parents with no source of living
  • Child of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs)
  • Children of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs)
  • Children of HIV victims
  • Victim of Domestic Abuse
  • Victims of natural disasters

Three children from each household are entitled to apply and enroll in the DSWD Educational Assistance Program. Of course, telling DSWD what’s going on doesn’t seem right. They must request the department to verify and approve their application.

Which students can apply?

According to the announcement, the DSWD Educational Assistance Program is open to elementary or grade school students, high school students, and vocational/college level students.

“Magsisimula ang Educational Assistance payout sa ika-20 ng Agosto 2022 at sa mga susunod na Sabado – Agosto 27, Setyembre 3, 10, 17 at 24,” Sec. E. Tulfo said in a Facebook post.

How much do interested applicants get?

To all parents and students who are inquiring about how much they’re going to get, elementary students will receive P1,000P2,000 for high school studentsP3,000 for Senior High School, and last but definitely not the least vocational/college level students will receive P4,000.

How to apply for DSWD Educational Assistance Program?

Those who wish to avail the educational assistance program may choose for two ways according to Sec. Erwin Tulfo:

  1. Walk-In
    Visit the DSWD Central Office or Field Office
  2. Email
    Send an email request to CIU.CO@DSWD.GOV.PH

Wait for an email confirmation from the DSWD which shall contain the date and place where you’ll get the assistance as well as the requirements you will need to submit.

Below are the necessary documentary requirements:

  1. Proof of Enrollment
  2. Authorization letter (if the applicant is not available)
  3. Valid ID of parent/guardian as well as students who are in college or taking vocational courses
